Bay Area Losing Economic Footing?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The Bay Area is one of the leading economic engines of the world. But, one economist says it may not be that way for much longer.
”We would rank fourth largest in the world if you measure it by the number of Forbes 1,000 Global Companies and their revenues. It puts us up there with New York, London and Shanghai,” said Dr. Sean Randolph of the Bay Area Council’s Economic Institute.
Companies can choose to locate anywhere in the world and for 21st century businesses low wages isn’t the first concern.
”We have probably the most educated workforce in the world, as measured by the number of people with PhD’s and advanced degrees. And we have a number of highly competitive industries,” said Randolph.
However, Randolph says our education system in under-funded in California and our schools are out-performed by other cities and countries.

Sustaining the Bay Area's Competitiveness
